WHAT
WE'RE ALL ABOUT
In 1998,
the Neighborhood Plan for the Community of Queen Anne,
redesignated ‘Lower Queen Anne’ as ‘Uptown’.
Since this time, the
Uptown Alliance, a community-run, non-profit organization,
has
played a vital role in maintaining direct involvement
of Uptown’s
citizens and business owners in sustaining a unique
urban uptown
center. Uptown thrives as a safe, down-to-earth neighborhood.
It’s a ‘little town in a big city’,
and abounds with coffee shops,
ethnic restaurants, and small businesses.
Earlier
this year, the Uptown Alliance attained the siting and
acquisition of land at the corner of Queen Anne Ave.
N and Roy St.
for the development of a new urban park in the heart
of Uptown.
On June 18th, members of the community gathered at the
site for a
park unveiling ceremony. Community leaders, representatives
from
Seattle Parks and Recreation, and members of the planning
committee spoke to an audience full of excited neighbors,
who were able to share their ideas for potential uses
and names for the park. Planning and design for park
development is scheduled to begin in 2005, through the
Pro Parks Levy. |
